Review: Palazzo Tafuri
If you know me, you know I love Puglia with all my heart and Nardo is one of the gems of the world! Not just Puglia, not just Italy - but the WORLD. Big call. I mean it. It is quite possibly my favorite place ever. A few years ago, on our first trip to Puglia - I stayed at an amazing place called NardoSalento in Nardo. This is where I was introduced to Vincent De Cat - the owner of all the incredible NardoSalento properties.
On my next trip to Puglia, turns out - he had been busy pouring his talent into a big new project—introducing Palazzo Tafuri. This stunning new hotel, right in the heart of Nardò, is amazing—an old palazzo transformed into a luxury escape. Yes please.
This place came together thanks to an incredible team. Vincent oversaw the entire project, designing every corner with his unique style (I love his work!). With Claudio Colaci as the architect - they make an exceptional team. I recently celebrated a birthday there with 20 friends, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Thank you to Athanase who helped us arrange this entire event & Chef Antonio Capoccello for the incredible food! Palazzo Tafuri is a masterpiece, and I feel so lucky to have experienced it in person!
Here’s a little review for you to help you make your decision and give you a little more insight to what’s available but also, just do it! Here we go.
THE HOTEL
Palazzo Tafuri, nestled in the heart of Nardo’s old city, is a remarkable blend of historical charm and modern luxury. Originally built in the early 18th century, this palazzo served as the residence of the noble Tafuri family. Its architectural grandeur and historical significance make it a standout landmark in Nardo. The spectacular refurbishment has preserved the historic beauty of the building while offering all the comforts of a luxurious boutique hotel.
Located perfectly within walking distance of everything in the old city, the hotel offers an amazing base for exploring. The interiors, masterfully designed by Vincent, capture a unique mix of traditional elegance and contemporary flair. The 16 grand suites, suites, and deluxe rooms are each unique, elegantly marrying historic beauty with modern sophistication.
THE ROOMS
Each room is individually designed, showcasing its own unique style and character. High ceilings and luxurious amenities create an atmosphere of elegance and comfort. Our room featured classic decor, plush bedding, and an amazing view of the church across the road, adding to that Italian charm. Every detail was meticulously curated to ensure a luxurious and relaxing experience.
I was lucky enough to explore some of the different rooms and you can be sure, they’re all amaaaazing. Ranging from cozy, intimate spaces to larger, more expansive suites, each room was crafted with meticulous attention to detail and difference from each other.
THE FOOD
Dining at Palazzo Tafuri is a must when staying here. The restaurant, led by the talented Chef Antonio, offers a culinary journey that’s more elevated to some of the other options in town. If you’re looking for an extra special dinner, you’ve found it! Breakfast was a lavish buffet with fresh fruits, pastries, and more, enjoyed in the open courtyard.
The ambiance of the courtyard, with its open air atmosphere, gives you that “I’m on holiday in Italy living my best life’ vibe and when you combine that with some of the most delicious food, makes for some sweet memories. We are so enamored with the dining experience that we’re returning later this year with 15 friends to celebrate a special birthday!
THE POOL
The hotel’s pool area is a true oasis. Designed for relaxation, it offers a perfect spot to unwind. It’s very quiet, and is right next to the spa area which offers lots of treatments! The pool’s design complements the historical architecture, creating a tranquil and refreshing retreat. It was one of our favourite places.
THE PEOPLE
The staff at Palazzo Tafuri were outstanding. From the warm welcome to the attentive service throughout our stay, they made us feel at home. They were incredibly helpful with making reservations and recommending things to do in Nardo, ensuring our visit was smooth and enjoyable. Everything and more that you could want.
Authentic tradition meets contemporary sophistication
Palazzo Tafuri is more than just a hotel; it’s a historical experience. With its rich history, stunning design, and exceptional service, it stands out as one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Whether you’re looking to explore the charm of Nardo or relax in a luxury setting, Palazzo Tafuri offers all of it, and not only will you experience a great hotel but you’ll experience Nardo - a must-do in life.
Nardo is ideally located near some of the most amazing parts of Puglia, such as Gallipoli, Porto Cesareo, and some of the best beaches in the world (IMO) The Salento region is a hidden gem that is not explored as much as it should be, and while part of me LOVES it that way, I know one day it’s going to boom. Don’t miss the chance to experience it now.
