Review: Masseria Moroseta

The reason I write reviews is just to rave about how much I loved somewhere and if I’m honest, I feel the pressure for this one. I’m worried I won’t have the words to accurately describe how amazing Masseria Moroseta is. Therefore, I’m going to keep it short and let the photos do the talking.

Set in the countryside of Ostuni in Puglia, Moroseta is a work of art. From the architecture and interiors to the homemade ceramics, olive oil, and food. Everything is done out of a depth of pure simplicity. The kind of simplicity that feels effortless but impossible to find in most places.

When we arrived at Moroseta, we were a little frazzled (to say the least) from the last few months when Covid-19 entered our lives but here, we were greeted with peaceful normality. Although respectfully all of the staff wore masks, it was very hard to find any fear at Masseria Moroseta. I am thankful for that.

Masseria Moroseta was founded and is run by the lovely Alessio and Carlo. Moroseta is worthy of a trip entirely planned around their availability. Be sure to book in advance.

THE MASSERIA

Surrounded by an olive grove, the Masseria can be found off an old country road leading to the white city of Ostuni. The main house features a large and beautiful living room that overlooks the Adriatic sea as well as large dining tables where all guests can dine together over breakfast or lunch. Take the white narrow steps up to the rooftop for the perfect place to spend sunset (with a spritz and olives of course) and out to the west, you can see the entire hilltop town of Ostuni.

There is plenty of space at the Masseria and you are immediately welcomed to feel right at home.

the rooms

There is a small range of 6 classic rooms or suites and each one has a private courtyard, which we loved. Comfortable bed, beautiful soft bedding, a walk-in shower, and classic décor means the rooms are simple, leaving space to help you relax.

The food

I was unprepared for how amazing the food would be. When we first arrived we immediately sat down to lunch outside and it blew our minds. So, it didn’t take long to learn about Giorgia Eugenia Goggi and that she was the genius chef behind all this amazing food. Using only fresh ingredients and creating recipes with the seasons, Giorgia is a talent.

Breakfast is provided every day and was a highlight for us. Lunch isn’t available every day but be sure to book a lunch during your stay. Every meal is different, and the art behind the preparation is to be admired and enjoyed.

One evening we made reservations at the Masseria for dinner and we were seated outside under the stars. Lucky for us, we had just made some new friends (who we still talk with!) and we ended up being the last to leave the table well after everyone else had gone to sleep.

For the evening, they offer a flat rate per person, and you are brought whatever is on the menu that night. It was fabulous. I have no photos because I was too busy talking to our new friends. Sometimes it’s good to put away the camera and although this Masseria just calls your camera to take thousands of photos, it also forces you to put them away and immerse yourself in the experience.

the pool

Olive trees as far as the eye can see, the pool is a total oasis. There’s always a chair and always a bulldog or cat to hang out with! Order a Moroseta spritz and relax.

the bulldogs

I thought all I needed was some vitamin D and a holiday but really, all I needed was two days with three bulldogs.
