A London Lockdown: In Photos
Didn’t it all happen so quickly?
On the 3rd of March, I was dining out at La Trompette in Chiswick for a special occasion. I live five minutes' walk away and in the 8 years I’ve lived here it’s only the second time I’ve had dinner there. Had I known I’d soon be stuck inside my house and unable to eat dinner out again with a human, I like to think I would’ve had a few more expensive glasses of wine.
On the 23rd of March, I was being informed by the UK Prime Minister that I could no longer leave my home.
It’s been just over eight weeks now since we went into lockdown. We watched our favourite restaurants, cafes, shops and our beloved transport system try to adjust to what we feared was coming. We watched them get quieter to eventually and inevitably closing down. How long for? No one knew. No one knows. “See you soon”.
We either panic bought pasta, rice, and toilet paper or tried to remain calm and pretend like it wasn’t happening. We were getting prepared for a season that we didn’t understand yet. We tried to prepare for the complete unknown.
I started to and now deeply miss what I use to hate the most about London. The masses of people, the busyness, the pollution, the noise, and worst of all, the lines. London lost it’s magic overnight as we were all confined to our homes and unable to enjoy one of the world's most vibrant cities.
We know we’ll get it back but we just don't know how long it will take.
These photos were taken on some of my daily isolation walks or my last few days at work.
See you soon London,
I love you.
